Artist

Smt. M.Girija is from the city of Mysore, the renowned cultural hub of Karnataka.

 

Her flair for fine arts manifested in her early years in painting and music. She pursued her avocation under the guidance of various gurus in art, sculpture and music.

 

She had a long stint working with The State Bank of Mysore.

 

During the past 25 years, she has honed her skill in painting through art camps, educative tours and visit to art centers in India and abroad.

 

Her success as an artist may be ascribed to diligence and acumen in preserving the nuances of the traditional art and developing her own style in their design, depiction and techniques.

Her paintings are housed permanently at the “Sacred Art Collection”, Brussels, Belgium and at ISKON, Mathura.

Currently she is the joint secretary of the Geographical Indicators for the miniature art of Ganjifa.

She has been honoured for her contribution to the field of art by ChamarajendraAcademy of Visual Arts (CAVA), Mysore

She has been awarded the prestigious “State Award” by the Govt. of Karnataka in the year 2009.

Her works have been acquired by many art connoisseurs in India and abroad: Japan, USA, Argentina, Sweden and Iran.

Currently she is devoting more time to the execution of the innovative painting and dissemination of knowledge in academic field also. She is a visiting faculty at the “School of Design”, University of Mysore and has tutored many pupils in Mysore traditional painting. She has authored several articles on art which have been published in Mysore darshana, various newspapers/magazines and in books such as, “Best of Mysore”. Her works have been incorporated as motifs for calendars, on cover pages of books and brochures.

She has exhibited her paintings in several solo and group exhibitions both within the country and abroad. The major ones among these are,
