Namaskara! welcome to the world of "Mysuru chitrakale" or Mysuru traditional gold paintings

This unique style of painting originated about AD 1525. During the reign of HH Sri. Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (1799-1868) of Mysore, the style matured fully. It had its ups and downs and currently is being revived by few artists from Mysore.

The painting procedure comprises the basic "gesso" work and the use of traditional colours and thin real gold foil (24 carat) for embellishments. The most popular themes are the traditional deities of the Hindu pantheon. The paintings are executed according to strict details of the scriptures. Mysore style painting is characterized by intricate use of colours and fine relief work to be preserved as a prized possession forever.

Ganjifa

This is a style of miniature painting. Originally, this 1000 year old playing card game was known in Sanskrit as "Kreeda Patra". During the Moghul rule the indoor game became a royal pastime. "Ganj" means money or treasure and playing for stakes became a favourite diversion among the aristocrats.

This art form is executed with a super-fine brush using natural colours and gold on ivory board or sandal wood sheets.

Owning a Mysore Traditional Style Gold Painting is more than just acquiring a piece of art; it's an investment in cultural heritage. Each painting is imbued with a story, a tradition, and the artistry of generations past. Let these exquisite creations add a touch of grandeur and cultural significance to your home.
